How My Books Came About

The first week in Hollywood I was a contestant on "Match Game" and won $6,000 in cash. That's what hooked me on winning and was the start of my road to cash and prizes! I immedialely wanted to audition for another game show, but I quickly learned you have to wait a year between each game show appearance. I decided to give sweepstakes and contests a try and lost. I won absolutely nothing! I thought I wasn't a lucky person and gave up! Then I thought that maybe luck wasn't required to win and that I could devise a strategy for winning!

Determined to win more prizes I kept at it and finally perfected my winning system for entering sweepstakes and contests. In the early 90's I started winning all sorts of exciting prizes! I was so thrilled with my winnings that I contacted The Los Angeles Times and they decided to write a feature cover article about me and my techniques for winning. The day my article hit the newsstands, I called KTLA in Los Angles and told them to check out the paper. I offered to be a guest on their show and share my secrets for winning. The very next day I was on their number one rated morning news show. Toward the end of the interview Carlos, one of the anchors said, "You really know a lot about this. You should write a book about it!" Well as luck would have it, Jeffrey Goldman publisher of Santa Monica Press was watching the show and contacted me. The result? My first book!

1. Don't rely on luck. You don't have to be "lucky" to win.
2. Follow the rules exactly. Make sure that you read all the fine print. Up to 50% of entries are disqualified for not following the rules.
3. Stagger your entries over the run of the sweepstakes. Enter a few times every few days if rules permit. Enter often!
4. Make entries eye-catching. Decorate entries, use colored envelopes, stickers and glitter. Write cheerful messages such as "Happy Go Lucky!" on the envelope.
5. Focus on entering local sweepstakes as opposed to large national ones. Your odds of winning are much better.
6. Get organized. Put together a "sweepstakes kit" which has all the supplies necessary to enter a sweepstakes, including stamps, pens, envelopes, blank index cards, etc.
7. Make entries feel different. Use oversized envelopes if rules permit. Fold entry blanks to an accordion shape before dropping then into an entry box.
8. Look for sweepstakes with short deadlines. Less people will find out about the sweepstakes.
9. Enter only legitimate sweepstakes. Never participate in any sweepstakes that requires a fee of any kind. Never provide credit card, bank or any financial information.
10. Visualize winning the prize. It will help you focus on what you have to do in order to win.
